Editing and Writing Services

I offer editing services from initial development to final polish. If you are unsure what editing work your material requires, I am happy to provide an assessment. Fees are dependent on the nature of the work.

Please contact me with any questions.

Copy editing focuses on cleaning up the mechanics and grammar of the material, ensuring that everything is correct, accurate and consistent. Copy editing includes, but is not limited to:

  • Correcting errors in spelling, grammar and usage.

  • Fact checking.

  • Ensuring consistency in spelling, numbers and abbreviations.

  • Flagging necessary citations, copyrights and permissions.

  • Ensuring the material is complete.

Proofreading looks at the material in the final layout, checking the work of the copy editor and interior designer. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Flagging typographical and formatting errors, and irregularities.

  • Checking consistency in layout.

  • Checking for visual elements that will distract the readers.

  • Checking for major errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation.

  • Ensuring that all edits have been transferred to the final draft.

A structural edit looks at the big picture, assessing and shaping the work to improve its organization and content. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Reorganizing the material to create coherent structure and flow.

  • Expanding or reducing the material.

  • Identifying missing or repetitive information.

  • Managing headings and sections.

  • Reorganizing information into different formats such as tables, charts or lists.

  • Arranging placement of visual elements.

A stylistic edit clarifies meaning, ensures coherence and flow, and refines the language of the material. While offered as an individual service, a stylistic edit can also be done at the same time as a structural or a copy edit. A stylistic edit includes, but is not limited to:

  • Improving paragraph and sentence structure, and word choice to more effectively convey meaning.

  • Revising sentences to reduce ambiguities and ensure logical connections.

  • Ensuring transitions are smooth and coherent.

  • Eliminating wordiness.
